New tricks are rolling out on Entertainment OS now
Sky’s Entertainment OS – which runs on Sky Glass and Sky Stream – has improved significantly this year with a number of features added, from Live Sync on Sky Sports to being able to fast forward or rewind using your voice. The company pushed the Entertainment OS 1.2 update back in May (Live Sync on Sky Sports came a bit later) that brought several new tricks, and now another update has appeared in Entertainment OS 1.3, just in time for Christmas.
The latest update not only brings Apple AirPlay support, allowing you to stream videos, photos, music and more from your iPhone, iPad or Mac, but the Skip Ads feature has improved too. You’ll now be able to jump through ads faster with a new skip ads button that lets you get through them with a single click.
A next episode button has also been introduced with the update, though there is also a countdown timer that will just do it automatically if you don’t want to lift a finger – much like Netflix offers.
The update also includes a feature that was announced back in May, but hasn’t been made available till now, in being able to add actors and actresses to your Sky Playlist. You do this by pressing the “+” on your remote when you’re looking through the user interface, and the actor or actress will then appear in the ‘People’ section of your Playlist where you will be able to tap on them to see the biggest TV shows and films they are in.
On the subject of Playlist, you can also personalise your playlist with a range of characters and TV stars, like Jamie Redknapp from A League of Their Own and Nicolas Galitzine from Mary & George following this update, and there are new avatars for kids too, including Paw Patrol and Peppa Pig.
Favourite channels can also be added to your home screen on Sky Glass and Sky Stream and you can allocate each their own number on your remote to get quick access to them. Last but not least, Amazon Music has also been updated on Sky Glass and Sky Stream to offer High Definition Audio. This can be accessed through the Amazon Music app, but you will need to be a Amazon Music Unlimited subscriber.
The latest Entertainment OS update is rolling out to Sky Glass and Sky Stream today and it should happen without you having to do anything. One thing to mention though, is the Skip Ads feature requires a subscription of £5 a month. It will let you fast forward adverts in the ITVX, STV Player and All4 TV apps though, which will no doubt be handy.
