Having smart security cameras is one thing but having smart security cameras that you then connect to smart assistants, like Alexa, results in a much better experience overall. If you have Nest cameras, you’re better to connect them to Google Assistant, while if you have Ring security cams, these player nicer with Alexa and Amazon’s Echo range overall.

For Arlo however, you can connect these up to either Google Assistant, Apple HomeKit for use with Siri, or indeed, as the title of this feature might have led you to believe, Amazon’s Alexa. Without further ado then, here’s how to connect Arlo to Alexa and what you can do.

What you’ll need

  • Your Arlo device setup
  • The Alexa app
  • The Arlo Secure app
  • A smartphone or tablet

The short version

  • Open the Arlo Secure App.

There are a number of things you can do when you link up your Arlo cameras and Alexa. You will be able to create Alexa Routines using your Arlo cameras, so you could change detection modes based on when you come home for example, and it will also be possible to see live feeds of an Arlo camera or doorbell on your Amazon Echo Show or Fire TV.

Elsewhere, should someone press your Arlo video doorbell for example, you will be able to set it so an Amazon Echo speaker or smart display will notify you that someone is at your door, and you can also ask Alexa on Echo Show devices or Fire TV to show you a view of your Arlo cameras or doorbell.

You’ll need to start off by linking your Arlo and Alexa accounts, but you will also need to enable the Arlo skill to make sure everything works as it should.

That’s it! You should now see your Arlo devices in the Alexa app, allowing you to move them to the rooms you want them in. You will also be able to add them to Alexa Routines, and see them on devices like the Echo Show or get notifications from them on an Echo speaker.
